(Washington, D.C.) - RSI Roofing, Inc., received a National Safety Excellence award at Associated Builders and Contractor's (ABC) national convention in San Antonio, March 7-11.

In announcing the awards, ABC Executive Vice President Kirk Pickerel said, "National Safety Excellence winners truly represent the best of the best in the construction industry. Winners not only have implemented effective safety programs at their firms, they also have outstanding safety records - many of them have the best possible Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable rates and low experience modification rates."

RSI Roofing, Inc., was incorporated in 1982, as a full service commercial and industrial roofing and sheet metal contractor. RSI's office and warehouses are located in Gouverneur, NY.

The millennium also brought other hard earned awards for RSI such as induction to Carlisle SynTec's 'Hall of Fame' for reaching the milestone of 250 perfect '10' roofing installations with their product; and appointment to Firestone's Contractor Advisory Council.

ABC is a national association representing approximately 23,000 merit (open) shop construction and construction-related firms in 82 chapters across the United States.

The ABC STEP program helps member construction firms evaluate their safety performance and safety training programs. ABC is proud to congratulate RSI Roofing, Inc. who earned the Platinum STEP award this year, the highest safety award conveyed to ABC member contractors through ABC National.

RSI Roofing, Inc. met very stringent safety guidelines, including:

Having an occupational injury and illness rate of less than 8.0 (industry average is 8.8)

Having a site specific written safety and health program, based upon either American National Standards Institute or OSHA guidelines, that includes employee involvement.

Providing training for employees on hazards specific to their jobs.

Providing effective supervisor training modeled on OSHA's 10-hour construction safety course.

Designating safety managers who receive training equivalent to OSHA's 30-hour construction safety training course

Having a track record that includes no willful or repeat serious violations in the last three years, and no fatalities or catastrophic accidents in the last three years that resulted in serious citations.
